Real Kitchen Focus – Brookwood Kitchens
This week’s focus is on Brookwood Kitchens, a family run business based in Markethill, Co. Armagh, who are not only distinguished kitchen specialists.
With over 30 years’ experience in creating custom-made kitchens and home furniture, this time they have used their design expertise to create a fascinating space for Judith and Josh Johnston. The married couple completed their new build 5 years ago, while they were in their early 20s and were keen to build a home that was structurally sensible and practical with a strong focus on family rather than following trends.
In this blog, we will look at the design choices used by the Johnstons and Brookwood Kitchens to create this amazing space, which secured the top spot in the STORI Top 10 Stories of 2023 Campaign!
Timeless Style with Neo-Classical Aesthetics
From the outset, homeowner Judith had a clear vision with an interest in keeping the materials and style consistent throughout the home, while also paying tribute to her strong love for timeless Neo-Classical design. Judith chose to work with Kerrie Gass at Brookwood Kitchens to help bring her dream kitchen project to life.
With functionality playing a key role in their kitchen plan, the Johnstons were committed to creating a space that would eventually evolve with their family. Storage and practicality were also a major factor in this build, while maintaining a symmetrical feel in the room.
Satisfyingly Symmetrical
For their classic open-plan kitchen/dining area, the Johnston’s chose our Wakefield range in a colour-matched white paint finish for a timeless contrast against their Walnut wood-grained effect herringbone tiles. Thanks to our Colour Match Service, the homeowners were able to match a popular shade of white by a well-established paint brand. The intricate white with elusive grey undertones really exhibits Wakefield’s classic design features, from its majestic shaker frame with beaded detailing to its genuine wood grain.
Seamlessly blending together the fusions of colour and styling were Calacatta Gold worktops, which looked very sleek and sophisticated. The finishing touches included nickel hardware and taps plus, a stainless steel Lacanche cooker with brass hardware to further complement the natural materials and colours selected.
Concentrating on the subtle details of this kitchen, there are contrasting metallic finishes that feature prominently throughout from the bronze-tinted kettle to the brass cooker handles. These fine characteristics work together in harmony to give this area a touch of finesse against the stunning Wakefield backdrop.
The meticulous lighting combined with natural light sources and the sparkling white worktops alludes further to the light and airy ambiance of this classically refined kitchen space. The Johnston’s carefully hand-picked bronze light fittings, linen blinds and a mirror backsplash which also enhances the area with awe-inspiring detail, warmth and elegance.
