A kitchen is so much more than a place to cook. For a busy family, it’s where everyday routines unfold, conversations happen and memories are made.

For Patrick Farren, his wife and their daughters, creating a kitchen that could comfortably accommodate family life while still feeling stylish and considered was key.

Their chosen design pairs Clifden in Porcelain and Heritage Green, a combination that brings together the timeless appeal of shaker cabinetry with a rich, colour palette.

We caught up with Patrick to discover more about their family kitchen and the design details that make the space work so well for everyday life.

Tell us a little about your family and what you wanted from your kitchen.

With three young daughters, our kitchen is naturally one of the busiest spaces in our home, so we wanted somewhere that could really work around family life.

It needed to be practical and have plenty of storage, but we also wanted it to feel warm and welcoming. We spend so much time together here, whether we’re preparing meals, baking with the girls or just catching up, so creating a space that everyone could enjoy was important to us.

Why did you choose Clifden in Porcelain and Heritage Green?

We loved the timeless feel of a shaker kitchen, but we wanted something that would still feel fresh and contemporary. Clifden gave us that perfect balance, with plenty of character while retaining clean, understated lines.

Colour was also important to us. Heritage Green immediately stood out for its rich, warm feel, while pairing it with Porcelain helped brighten the space and create a beautiful contrast. Together, the two shades give the kitchen personality without feeling overly trend-led, creating a look we know we’ll continue to love for years to come.

What was most important when planning the layout and storage?

We really wanted the kitchen to work for all of us rather than simply look good, so both the layout and storage were important.

The large island gives us plenty of space for food preparation while also creating somewhere the girls can get involved. It means we can all spend time in the kitchen together without it feeling crowded, and it’s naturally become the heart of the room.

With a busy family, plenty of storage was also high on our wish list. The pantry is one of our favourite features, keeping jars, ingredients and everyday essentials organised and within easy reach. Once the doors are closed, everything is neatly hidden away, helping the kitchen feel calm, uncluttered and practical for everyday family life.

What do you love most about the finished kitchen?

It’s difficult to choose just one thing! The Heritage Green cabinetry gives the kitchen so much character, while the pantry and island have made a huge difference to how we use the space as a family.

We love how all the details work together, from the dedicated cooker area and statement lighting to the light worktops and contrasting Porcelain cabinetry. The finished kitchen feels timeless and welcoming, but most importantly, it feels like a family home.

We wanted a space that looked beautiful without ever feeling too precious. It feels considered and stylish, but it’s also somewhere we can enjoy together every day.

A Kitchen to Grow Into

Patrick and his family’s kitchen are a beautiful example of how thoughtful design can bring style and everyday practicality together.

The combination of Clifden in Porcelain and Heritage Green creates a timeless two-tone palette, while the generous island and dedicated pantry ensure the room works just as hard as it looks good.
