What Homeowners Are Looking for Today

We caught up with our Premium Retailer, Boyles Kitchens, to hear what customers are asking for in the showroom today.

Every homeowner arrives with a different vision for their dream kitchen, but some themes continue to emerge time and time again. From enduring design styles to the finer details that make a kitchen work beautifully every day, Boyles Kitchens shares what they’re seeing on the showroom floor.

What’s one design trend or feature that continues to be a firm favourite with homeowners?

“If I had to pick one design feature that’s become a real firm favourite with homeowners, I’d say stained finishes.”

More and more customers are coming into the showroom asking for the warmth, texture and character that natural wood brings to a kitchen. Stained finishes have a timeless quality about them, creating spaces that feel inviting, sophisticated and full of personality.

That said, stained finishes are just one part of the story. Shaker-style kitchens remain one of our most requested designs, with many homeowners already knowing they want that classic look before they even walk through the door. Our role is to help them explore the STORI ranges, colours and finishes to find the combination that best suits their home and lifestyle.

Another noticeable shift has been the attention customers are paying to the finer details. Handles, for example, have become much more than a finishing touch.

“It’s no longer just about choosing something that looks good,” explains the team. “Customers are asking practical questions like, ‘Will this be comfortable to use every day?’, ‘Will this handle suit a taller larder door?’ or ‘Would a handleless kitchen work better in this space?'”

Those conversations reflect a broader change in how people approach kitchen design. Homeowners aren’t simply following trends—they’re carefully considering how every element will function in everyday life, creating spaces that feel as practical as they are beautiful.

If you could describe what today’s homeowners are looking for in three words, what would they be?

Timeless
Homeowners want kitchens that won’t date. They’re looking for designs with lasting appeal that they’ll continue to enjoy for years to come.

Functional
Practicality is just as important as aesthetics. Every detail, from storage solutions to handle choices, is carefully considered to ensure the kitchen works effortlessly for everyday living.

Personal
Rather than following trends for the sake of it, customers want a kitchen that reflects their own style, personality and the way they live.

“At the end of the day, that’s exactly what we’re helping people create—a kitchen that’s not just beautiful to look at, but one that’s designed to be lived in and enjoyed for years to come.”
