When it comes to creating a kitchen that feels both timeless and tailored, it takes more than just beautiful cabinetry—it takes vision, craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of how people live.

In this blog, STORI, in partnership with Ireland’s Kitchen Guide, is proud to spotlight a standout project by Aloco Fitted Furniture Ltd, a Premium STORI Retailer. Featured in the Autumn 2025 issue, available from 19th September 2025, this Real Kitchen Focus offers an inspiring behind-the-scenes look at how Aloco designer Catherine Donnelly brought transformed her client’s vision into reality – blending precision, creativity, and care to deliver a truly exceptional space.

Based in Dublin and handcrafting bespoke kitchens since 1980, Aloco Fitted Furniture Ltd is a family-run business renowned for its heritage, integrity, and exceptional attention to detail. This latest project in Malahide showcases the STORI Belgravia range, with a bold, colour matched paint tone used on the island unit to create a striking focal point, beautifully balanced by a softer, muted shade on the surrounding wall cabinetry – a palette chosen to complement the elegance of the client’s home. the handcrafted dovetail drawers and a spacious walk-in pantry to the cleverly concealed bi-fold prep area and statement island, every detail was thoughtfully designed to reflect the client’s vision of a kitchen that blends timeless style with modern-day functionality.

There’s a quiet elegance to this STORI Collection kitchen by Dublin-based Aloco Kitchens. A strong brief and close collaboration formed the foundation for a refined, high-spec space with enduring appeal.

When Catherine Donnelly of Aloco Kitchens first met the client, there was no ambiguity around what they wanted. “They provided a very detailed and specific design brief right from the beginning,” she says. “They had a clear idea of wanting a bespoke in-frame kitchen from STORI Collection’s Belgravia range that combined traditional features with modern-day practicality.”

The project was rooted in precision from the outset, with the layout carefully reworked to meet the client’s needs. “We adjusted the configuration to suit their lifestyle and explored several colour palettes before settling on a scheme, provided by STORI’s Colour Match Service, that complemented the overall aesthetic of their home,” says Catherine.

One of the standout features is how the storage and style are seamlessly combined. “The bi-fold cabinetry that open to reveal hidden prep areas and functional zones were key. They allow the kitchen to stay clean and uncluttered while remaining fully accessible,” she explains. “All drawers are handcrafted with dovetail joints, ensuring strength and a premium finish.”

The design also includes a fully fitted pantry, offering generous storage and a dedicated area for dry goods and small appliances. “Together, these tailored features create a room that is timeless, practical, and elegant,” she adds.

Functionality never took a back seat to visual appeal. “The client envisioned a large island with built-in seating for food prep and socialising, as well as clever storage solutions to keep the surfaces clutter-free. The STORI double bi-fold counter pantry became a key element, allowing appliances and prep tools to be tucked away when not in use.

Appliances were selected with both performance and cohesion in mind. “They chose a Miele integrated larder fridge and freezer, a Neff dishwasher, and a striking 1.2-metre black Lofra range with gold accents,” Catherine says.

Catherine also had input on materials and lighting. “I recommended a natural timber floor to complement the Belgravia painted woodgrain cabinetry. The herringbone pattern added both warmth and texture. We took a layered lighting approach, that meant functional fixtures inside the pantries, and feature pendants above the island to create a focal point and add ambient glow.”

Balancing heritage with a contemporary edge proved the project’s greatest challenge. “The client wanted classic handcrafted touches but also needed smart, efficient storage,” she says. “We had to maximise utility without compromising on craftsmanship, which meant detailed planning, 3D renders, and close coordination throughout.”

As with most bespoke builds, there were a few challenges along the way, but these were handled smoothly. “Nothing caused delays or impacted quality,” Catherine says. From initial consultation to final installation, the project spanned around three to four months.

Among the many customised features, the island stands out as a particular highlight. “It’s not just a centrepiece in a contrasting colour with a premium quartz worktop, it includes deep drawers with dovetail joints, built-in seating, and ample surface area for food preparation. It really is the heart of the kitchen.”

The client was drawn to Aloco Kitchens not only for its design expertise but also for its roots. “They loved the company’s strong family heritage and trusted that our four decades of experience would result in a kitchen built to last,” Catherine says. “The handcrafted feel of the in-frame style really appealed to them.”

Ultimately, it was the bi-fold pantry doors from STORI’s Belgravia range that stole their hearts. “The client was delighted. They felt the design captured their vision exactly. Their favourite feature was the concealed prep zone, a clever touch that keeps everything out of sight but easily within reach. For them, it wasn’t just about aesthetics. It was about having a space that truly reflected how they live.”
